Gharo and Baldia.
The clinics in Gharo and Baldia town are well established and running smoothly. Since the beginning of the year we have treated around 48,000 patients requiring primary care. In Gharo, due to an increase in patient numbers we are looking into hiring a 3rd doctor and expanding our services to include ultrasound echocardiogram. We have initiated CME (Continued Medical Education) for our doctors so that they can stay up to date on the latest medical procedures and advancements.
Although the majority of the patients in Gharo comprise of women and children, the clinic often sees patients like Hanif who are persuaded to come in by family members.
Hanif was run over by a motor cycle and tried various home remedies, eventually he came into the clinic with a swollen ankle, pain and high fever. At the SHINE Humanity clinic he received treatment from a qualified doctor, his wound was cleaned and dressed and he was given antibiotics to treat the infection. All medicines were provided free of cost.
In the wake of the epic 2010 floods, SHINE Humanity initiated a program to support the pediatric wards of R.B.U.T Civil hospital Shikarpur. Through your generous donations we were able to provide free medicines and medical supplies to well over 1100 children every month with almost 75,000 needy children benefiting directly from your support.
As of October 2016, after running the project successfully for 6 years, SHINE has decided to bring this project to an end. Our commitment to helping the under served population of Sindh will again be the under laying factor when we take up a project elsewhere.
By educating the parents on the need for routine immunizations and by offering timely medical help, mortality rate at the Pediatric ward fell by one third over a period of six years.
We are pleased to announce that Shine Humanity has received a grant of $100,000 from the Ogasawara Foundation Japan to support the Paani Project. We have pinpointed a number of villages around Gharo where community stills will be installed with the help of Voltek Energy, Inc. These stills will provide clean, safe drinking water.
Helping Babies Breathe
After having already trained around 600 doctors, nurses, midwives and LHV’s, Dr Naghmana Shafi will be in Karachi in November for her next training sessions. The program (HBB) will be expanding its outreach by conducting courses in Lahore for the first time.
- We are very grateful to Dr. Yasmeen Ruhge ,Marilyn Wyatt and a host of donors who donated generously to purchase a state of the art Echocardiogram machine through “Have a Heart for Gharo – Go fund me” campaign. The machine will be installed in our Gharo Clinic in December and a trained technician will be hired to ensure that we get maximum benefit from the donation.
- Congratulations to Dr. Sara Khan on her upcoming wedding in January, She has very graciously asked her guests/well wishers to donate to SHINE Humanity instead of a wedding gift.
